From now on all Amazon customers can order an echo - a personal invitation is no longer necessary. The smart assistant Alexa is now available to all customers in Germany.

Amazon customers in Germany can now buy the smart loudspeaker Echo. Previously, the networked voice-controlled assistant was only available in Germany on invitation, the online trade giant said. Only customers, who helped Alexa with the development of the corresponding speech control technology, were able to test the service. With Alexa, Amazon competes with Google Now, Siri of Apple and Cortana of Microsoft.

Echo and the smaller version Dot can perform tasks such as an alarm clock, add a shopping list, order consumables in connection with Amazon Prime, or answer questions using Internet sources. The service can control the networked household, such as opening the garage door. In addition, the networked loudspeaker can be linked to music services such as Spotify or Amazon Music, or radios can be played using the app TuneIn.

How Amazon echo works

Echo is equipped with a total of seven microphones with directional beam technology and improved noise suppression. This makes it possible for the voice assistant to recognize and understand speech signals from the user from every corner of the room. The directional beam technology combines the signals from the individual microphones in order to suppress noise, reverb, running music and even other voices in the background. The down-facing dual downfire speakers are also designed to provide 360-degree sound with immersive surround sound.
